About
Present Paradox, the music project by David Kleinekottmann from Dortmund, explores of the often opaque nature of the present. The result is a fusion of melancholic and danceable elements, expansive and intimate at the same time, diverse and yet familiar. Since 2013, Kleinekottmann has been regularly releasing LPs/EPs that move between indie, experimental rock and electronica.
Early on, former Cocteau Twins bassist Simon Raymonde expressed his enthusiasm on British radio: "That's an exciting sound David is making!"*. And Thoralf Koß, editor-in-chief of Musikreviews.de, attests to Present Paradox's fine "feel for addictive melodies and poetic lyrics "*.
In 2016, David Kleinekottmann began bringing the sound of the Present Paradox music to the stage. Equipped with keyboard, guitar, sampler and a varied set, always ready to give his all on stage and sink into the songs. The German concert critic Captain's Dinner wrote about the last performance shortly before the outbreak of the 2020 pandemic: "A project that undoubtedly has international class and definitely deserves more attention"***.

Present Paradox's LP 5 - A search for a safe place
‘A Cave In The Inside‘ is the fifth album of Present Paradox, Dortmund-based songwriter and producer David Kleinekottmann. It continues an distinctly adventurous catalogue from the sample-splicing debut Institutions (2013) over the very personal Acute (2015) through to the art-rock influenced expressions of his last album, Space for Wishes (2016).
“To me, the new album asks how to deal with difficult feelings and circumstances. I mean, the others did that as well, but this time it’s more from a outside point. It’s more like when you recognize, oh look, what I‘m doing feels right now to me, to keep it going and not to get stuck. Thats always some sort of uplifting.”
With „A Cave In The Inside" he continues to explore the musical paths entered with „Space for Wishes". A mixture of rockmusic with electronica and even some contemporary classical, inspired by the latest outputs of Radiohead, Fink and Ghostpoet.
“The first song ‘Nightwalk’ set the tone for the album. After I wrote that string part for the end of the song and send it to a professional string-player [Maria Grigoryeva] I was a really blown away when I heard the results and how it sounded in the mix. From that moment on it was clear which direction the album should take.”
‘A cave in the inside’ offers a variety of sounds, no song sounds like the other. Strings, synth-pads, a choir, guitars and acoustic drums, everything finds its place on this album. From the fast guitar arpeggios on ‘Magical Twist’, over the pulsating and driving ‘Good Wind’ to the moody and sparse ‘A cave in the inside’ Present Paradox offers an emotional journey over the span of six songs.

>There's this light, airy quality to Present Paradox's music, somewhat akin to vintage Talk Talk, that manages to sound both psychedelic and emotive. This sings to my soul, as it likely will for anyone that thinks a lot, may be prone to bouts of melancholy, but also sees the brightness and positivity in life.<
