About

Present Paradox, the music project by David Kleinekottmann from Dortmund, explores of the often opaque nature of the present. The result is a fusion of melancholic and danceable elements, expansive and intimate at the same time, diverse and yet familiar. Since 2013, Kleinekottmann has been regularly releasing LPs/EPs that move between indie, experimental rock and electronica.

Early on, former Cocteau Twins bassist Simon Raymonde expressed his enthusiasm on British radio: "That's an exciting sound David is making!"*. And Thoralf Koß, editor-in-chief of Musikreviews.de, attests to Present Paradox's fine "feel for addictive melodies and poetic lyrics "*.

In 2016, David Kleinekottmann began bringing the sound of the Present Paradox music to the stage. Equipped with keyboard, guitar, sampler and a varied set, always ready to give his all on stage and sink into the songs. The German concert critic Captain's Dinner wrote about the last performance shortly before the outbreak of the 2020 pandemic: "A project that undoubtedly has international class and definitely deserves more attention"***.

Present Paradox's seventh LP tells about fears and uncertainties

>>I can't ask this train to stop<<

"There was this strong feel of uncertainty. I think that feel accompanied the creation of the album."

With 'Rails To Tomorrow' Present Paradox's seventh LP drives deep into the fields of electronic music. Nervous uptempo beats and brooding synths support this feel of uncertainty and fear. This is by far the most electronic and danceable output from Present Paradox. It starts where his last LP "The Rhythm of Spring" has stopped. Tracks build out of evolving loops, ambient textures and a mixture of electronic sounds and real instruments.

"When you are a more anxious person not knowing what comes next can create a lot of trouble. It can let your fears grow. I had these strange sleeping problems for weeks after a lot of changes happened in my life. I was lying awake for hours. That was the time when I started to work as a freelancer and you know what it means to be a freelancer. You don’t know how many jobs you receive this month. You are constantly looking for a plan B. You ask yourself: Can I keep on with the things I love to do? And that’s the point where you should find a way to step out of this thought-carousel. To me that implies to translate those feelings and thoughts into my music and lyrics. Even if they seem to be pretty abstract in some cases. But they are born in these days. "

With seven short LPs (all six tracks long) since 2013 David Kleinekottmann aka Present Paradox wants to take a break from recording and focussing on touring.
