About

Present Paradox, the music project by David Kleinekottmann from Dortmund, explores of the often opaque nature of the present. The result is a fusion of melancholic and danceable elements, expansive and intimate at the same time, diverse and yet familiar. Since 2013, Kleinekottmann has been regularly releasing LPs/EPs that move between indie, experimental rock and electronica.

Early on, former Cocteau Twins bassist Simon Raymonde expressed his enthusiasm on British radio: "That's an exciting sound David is making!"*. And Thoralf Koß, editor-in-chief of Musikreviews.de, attests to Present Paradox's fine "feel for addictive melodies and poetic lyrics "*.

In 2016, David Kleinekottmann began bringing the sound of the Present Paradox music to the stage. Equipped with keyboard, guitar, sampler and a varied set, always ready to give his all on stage and sink into the songs. The German concert critic Captain's Dinner wrote about the last performance shortly before the outbreak of the 2020 pandemic: "A project that undoubtedly has international class and definitely deserves more attention"***.

The end of a close relationship: Present Paradox's new single The Crack

The music project "Present Paradox" by Dortmund-based David Kleinekottmann provides insights into the often opaque nature of the present. The result is a fusion of melancholic and danceable elements, expansive and intimate at the same time, diverse and yet familiar. Since 2013, Kleinekottmann has been regularly releasing LPs/EPs that move between indie, experimental rock and electronica.

The Single The Crack is part of Present Paradox' latest work, A Trace To Keep Control. The LP takes the listener into the feeling of losing control by thematizing personal upheavals, the end of trusted relationships, the pressing climate crisis and the social shift to the political right. The album is an artistic exploration in which the personal intertwines with the political and social in the lyrics.

The musical landscape of A Trace To Keep Control skillfully combines elements of krautrock, post-punk and experimental rock into a dynamic mesh. Saxophones and clarinets add a jazzy touch to some of the tracks, giving the 49-minute album an extremely multifaceted dimension.

The album will be released on May 17, 2024 via Timezone Records (Germany). It presents itself as an artistic manifesto that captures the challenges of the perceived loss of control and explores the path to orientation amidst the uncertainties in a musical way.
