About

Present Paradox, the music project by David Kleinekottmann from Dortmund, explores of the often opaque nature of the present. The result is a fusion of melancholic and danceable elements, expansive and intimate at the same time, diverse and yet familiar. Since 2013, Kleinekottmann has been regularly releasing LPs/EPs that move between indie, experimental rock and electronica.

Early on, former Cocteau Twins bassist Simon Raymonde expressed his enthusiasm on British radio: "That's an exciting sound David is making!"*. And Thoralf Koß, editor-in-chief of Musikreviews.de, attests to Present Paradox's fine "feel for addictive melodies and poetic lyrics "*.

In 2016, David Kleinekottmann began bringing the sound of the Present Paradox music to the stage. Equipped with keyboard, guitar, sampler and a varied set, always ready to give his all on stage and sink into the songs. The German concert critic Captain's Dinner wrote about the last performance shortly before the outbreak of the 2020 pandemic: "A project that undoubtedly has international class and definitely deserves more attention"***.

Present Paradox Releases ‘A Vibrant Sea’ – Gentle Rhythms, Lingering Unease

With the upcoming single “A Vibrant Sea”, set for release on February 9, 2026, Present Paradox offers a first glimpse into the forthcoming album of the same name. The track marks the beginning of a musical journey situated between atmospheric density and rhythmic complexity. A music video will accompany the single upon its release on releasedate.

The Single: A Loop Between Proximity and Distance
A Vibrant Sea explores a sense of missing the mark – a state in which something feels almost within reach, yet slips away at the decisive moment. “It’s less about failure than about being suspended in mid-air,” says David Kleinekottmann, describing the central mood of the track.

Sonically, a high-register violin and theremin-like textures cut through the bossa-nova–inflected, tom-tom-driven rhythm. This contrast undermines the apparent lightness of the groove, introducing a subtle sense of unease. What initially suggests warmth and movement gradually reveals an underlying discomfort, mirroring the song’s emotional tension.
